Yeah, so...
I turned on the State of the Union a little over halfway through this evening. I hadn't turned it on before, because I thought it'd distract me while I was trying to do homework (which it did anyway, but I got it all done). So, I came away from that actually kind of impressed. Not actually impressed, but impressed he didn't really piss me off. The part I heard then was mostly about Iraq and what we're doing in the mideast. Some of the stuff (like sounding like we're going to just sweep through the whole region and "fix" everyone, and that we're soon coming for Iran) didn't exactly please me, but some of the stuff I felt was exactly right. I know, I agree with Bush on something, shoot me now.
Anyway, I was interested in seeing the rest of the speech, to see how I would react to that. So I went to the C-SPAN site, where they have
State of the Unions (States of the Union?) (both the current one, and those from many past presidents) available to watch. So I just got through it to the part where I turned on the TV.
The beginning, I also mostly agreed with. I, like many of the vocal democrats, may not agree with his figures about social security, but I do believe it needs to be reworked, some way or another. I'm not sure how I stand on his plan, as I haven't had a chance to look into it much yet. From his description, it sounded half decent, but again, that's what it was suposed to do. Anyway, the point is, I was almost back to where I started, and I was starting to think that maybe I wouldn't hate Bush as much this term as the last one, if he didnt' start lying to us again.
But then came the 26 minute mark...and there went any good feelings I had toward him. Consti-fucking-tuional ammendments to ban gay marriage, faith based initiatives, and cutting off stem cell research really get me hacked. If he had thrown in a statement or two school vouchers, I would've punched the bloody screen. And in the middle of all the "fuck you if you're not like us, and think like us"-ing, he says something about not wanting to exclude any americans from something or other (sorry I don't recall the exact words, but I was
pissed by this point.) Yeah right! That's exactly what you just did, jack-ass! Man, I would've been so much happier if I had just missed those 6 minutes or so...a 59 or so minute speech, and yet he packs so much douche-baggery into 6 minutes. Arrrrgh!!!
In conclusion, though he may be able to put out stuff that's appeasing, or at least non-aggravating, it's shit like this, snuck in in the middle that makes me absolutely want to strangle him for what he's doing to this country.
Oh, yeah...plus, when I saw the Iraqi lady holding up her finger after being acknowledged, I initially thought she was flipping him the bird...that made me laugh for a moment or two.
